Step 1: Identify Whether It’s Your Home or the Utility

Before calling an electrician, determine whether the outage is isolated to your home or affects your neighbors. If nearby homes are also dark, the issue is with APS (Arizona Public Service) and you should report it to APS at 602-371-7171. Their outage map at aps.com will show current outages in your area.

If your home is the only one affected, the issue is almost certainly on your side of the meter — meaning it’s an electrical problem we can diagnose and fix.

Step 2: Check Your Main Panel

Go to your electrical panel — typically in the garage — and look for any breakers that are in the tripped position (usually showing in an middle or orange position rather than fully on or off).

If your main breaker has tripped, you can try resetting it once by switching it fully off and then back on. If it trips again immediately, do not keep resetting it. A main breaker that won’t stay on indicates a serious problem — call us immediately.

If individual circuit breakers have tripped, identify which circuits are affected, unplug devices on those circuits, and try resetting the breaker. If it trips again without an obvious overload cause, that circuit needs professional attention.
